Marlow - August!

In the first weekend of August, i am going down to Marlow, in Buckinghamshire. I am planning to go to some of the areas nearby to Marlow (eg. Aylesbury, Bicester, High wycombe, and Marlow itself). The sort of Butterflies i am going to look for are basically any of the down south ones, that i haven't...

Ringlet - Brockholes quarry

Last weekend i found a Ringlet a Brockholes quarry, Preston, attached is a picture of the one we found and it's distribution map. This must be a pretty good record because this is quite a bit out of it's range. Thanks, Nick. http://upload9.postimage.org/237730/sonydsc55001a.jpg http://upload9.postim...

Sorry,
you are right this is a Dark-green fritillary. Although when we were at Whitbarrow, we did see Dark-green, High-brown, Small-Pearl-bordered and Pearl-bordered fritillaries. A brilliant collection. For pictures of the visit see my Blog:

Whitbarrow - Brown argus!

2 weekends ago, we made a visit to Whitbarrow NNR, and saw loads (4 Fritillary species, etc). But one thing we found in a scrubby area was an Argus, which i took a few pics of, and we walked away thinking it was a Northern brown argus, but when we got home and compared pictures, it turns out that it...

Whitbarrow?

Thinking of making a trip up to Whitbarrow tomorrow in South Cumbria, to look out for the speciality Butterflies there. The Forecast for tomorrow (1st July 07) is meant to be cloudy with a few showers. OK it's probably the worst weather you could ask for when trying to look for Butterflies. But is t...
