Re: Cheapest Tamron ever?

Thanks  - followed your link and just got a Nikon fit Tamron 55-200mm Macro delivered for £31:50 :) Like you said - a cheaper consumer lens compared to the 90mm prime macro that I have - but gives a nice range as a general purpose lens to keep on the camera. Haven't had a chance to see it i...

Re: 2008 Photography Competition

The number and quality of entries had me reeling this year! So difficult to choose - so I didn't! I just admired the work that others put in to get down to 3 in each category - all worthy winners! ... I also thought the entry Nick B put in was just brilliant. Wow! Praise indeed from someone who trie...

Re: October 2008 votes

Thanks Pete! Once again Pete shows his skills in critique (as well as with his camera!) :D "Looks like the light is on the wrong side of the butterfly....." Thanks due to Nikon for their Active D-Lighting (helps to compensate and bring out more of the shadow) when you are faced with high-c...

Re: Hazards of Butterflying

Apparently poor old Jack can't even access the UKB web-site from hospital...something about being blocked as "unsuitable content"! (Must be all the sex on the photography pages!) Anyway - he only has a couple of days to go, hopefully, and then Addenbrookes will no doubt to be as glad as Ja...

Re: Butterflies and ants

I read in Collins Butterfly Guide ("The most complete guide to the Butterflies of Britain & Europe" - Tolman & Lewington)* that many species of ant are involved in the caring for larvae of various blue butterflies, though interestingly not the most widespread, the Common Blue. :? N...

Re: S.A.D?

Hi
Well, my skills in not-making-things seem to do very well when it comes to not-making money! :(

Not that I'm down about that; getting back tonight tho', all I want to do is snuggle-up somewhere warm and forget the cold and wet! Brrrr!

No doubt "Pin-up" is also unsuitable for a Butterfly forum?!

Re: S.A.D?

True, we actually have a decent public transport system in Switzerland, but it isn't that that gives me my freedom. Guy Having used the Post-Buses in Switzerland they certainly allow you to plan your travel and get to places right up in the mountains where otherwise it would be impossible to go wit...

Re: November Butterflies

Yes - I too thought that Commas were "predictable"....however, local reports in Cambridgeshire still show them active up to last Saturday too! I guess because we have had no prolonged cold periods - temperatures have been up and down recently - butterflies have yet to decide that "Win...

Re: October 2008 votes

Yes - Congrats to all! As soon as I saw Pete's - the rest were for second place - fantastic shot! And I went for Denise in second with that delicate capture and the third vote was a coin toss .... as there were three that could have been! Once again a high standard - trust me to bring the tone down ...

Re: November Butterflies

I think sometimes we under estimate the number of butterflies that are flying throughout the UK on any given day! There must be something flying somewhere nearly every day of the year.... All it seems to take is a few sunny hours and some sheltered place and a Peacock or Red Admiral or possibly Comm...

Re: November Butterflies

Out today in the Fens near Cottenham cycling along a sheltered drove - a Peacock!
Won't win any beauty competitions, but still flying...!
(Blowing a gale and no more than 6C; in the shelter of the drove, a few degrees warmer along the bottom of the hedge in the sun....)

Re: S.A.D?

Yeah Mouse, Low mood definitely kicking in! Guy (and others) can dream about butterflies instead but I just can't wait for Spring and the chance to get out there! But - getting out and into the country (with my camera) does help, as does cycling at the weekend... but I still get down about the lack ...

Re: New Canon 50d

The Eccles doth protest too much, methinks. I can keep quiet for so long - but when the Grand-pohbah goes after an innocent Alpha user (forgive them, they know not....) ..... even a Nikonian is drawn to speak.... 50D - just about caught up with the Nikon D300.....and that's not top of their pro-sum...
