Re: Norfolk Graylings
Winterton Dunes very good. I've seen the first ones in previous years when the Dark-green Fritillaries are at their peak, which is probably about now from what I've heard. So the end of this month should be good for Grayling. The Norfolk branch website says their typical season is early July to mid...

Norfolk Graylings
Hi,
I am thinking going up to Norfolk at the end of this month to look for Graylings.
Is Winterton Dunes Nature Reserve a good site? And will they still be around and in good condition by the end of July?
Any other info on Norfolk Graylings gratefully received.
Cheers

Re: dilettante
For the first time in a few years I was able to make a trip to Fermyn Woods in emperor season. I parked at the gliding club entrance (parking very busy even at 9:30), and immediately could see a group of people clustered round a grounded emperor on the track. Hi Dilettante, I must have been one of ...

Thanks Guy. Great insect, not so great photo..Padfield wrote:It is ab. suffusa. Well done! A great insect!
Will it's descendents inherit the altered markings? Or is it caused by environmental conditions? There has been a heat-wave in the UK for the last 10 days or so,

Comma ab.
I saw this strange Comma (Semi-colon perhaps?) at Fermyn Woods on Saturday June 30th:
Is it a known aberration?

Re: Fermyn Woods 2018
Hello Charles,
Do I take it that you're not expecting to see many Emperors along the affected (main) path?
I was thinking of going to Fermyn at the end of next week (June 28/9) but maybe I won't bother now
Do the Forestry Commission liaise with Butterfly Conservation at all?
Cheers

Evening butterflying when the temperatures soar is not a bad idea. I bumped into John Williams today (nice to meet you again John) and he was telling me that's exactly how he got some good shots of SPBF recently. Thank you for the ID's too - much appreciated. I was so thrilled when Buggy offered to...

Re: Trevor
A morning visit to ' The hill ' resulted in plenty of Green Hairstreaks, plus Grizzled and Dingy Skippers. Very little else was on the wing except for some ' Whites ' and a patrolling male Orange Tip. I would guess the Marsh Fritillary is still about a week to 10 days away. Hi Trevor, Someone on th...

Saturday 21st April (cont) After enjoying this sight for while, and getting our fill of pics, we departed Mill Hill more than satisfied. Thus ended a long but immensely enjoyable day, and I have to give a massive thanks to John for his kind invite. Cheers Hi Andrew, just to say that it wa...

Hi Neil, It was good to see you, briefly, at Wiston today. Andrew and I carried on to Mill Hill where we got some good pictures of basking Grizzled Skippers. Would you mind giving out a grid reference or Google maps co-ordinates for your Green Hairstreak location near Devils Dyke? I don't think I re...

Re: April 2018
At last! I saw my first butterflies of the year today, a couple of Peacocks and Small Tortoiseshell, at Stanmer Park, Brighton. Last year I saw my first butterflies a whole month earlier, on March 11th!

Pixelmator is a highly regarded image processing application for Macs. The basic version is a one off payment of £28.99 and the Pro version is £54.99.
Personally I get by with the Apple Photos app but it doesn't have focus stacking.

I made the pilgrimage to that field as well (not too far in my case as I live in Brighton).
Quite possibly a once in a lifetime sighting!

I very much enjoyed meeting everyone (Millerd, Philzoid, Bugboy, Iona, Pete, Essexbuzzard and Esther, Wurzel and Paul) at the Winter social yesterday. It's a shame I had to leave early, especially as I missed Susie!

On to Mill Hill, where I met Dave Cook. Here it really was breezy, with not a lot about, exceopt for a real surprise, my first ever November Meadow Brown, and not in bad condition. I have seen a nice fresh one in late October before (23/10/2011) but never as late as November! mb-23-10-2011 - 1.jpg ...
