Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Hi, David. Long time no see. Anyway, how on earth should I know? It was just a borrowed dog of some random passerby ladies. All I know is he was pretty ticklish :D

(EDIT - italy truffeldog, maybe?)

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Thank you, I'd say I was 100% dedicated to our thing from April to September. But today was time to switch the roles from author to object. 40IMG_3679_.jpg 39IMG_3678_.jpg 36IMG_3653y_.jpg 17IMG_3586_.jpg I'm so young for a butterflier, I know. Btw, photos has been taken on the biotopes of Dusky Lar...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Since I temporarily changed my priorities, I didn't do much butterflying since late September. What remains to be posted from late Summer: 2013_08_19_presika_2.jpg modrasek_jetelovy_2013_08_19_presika.jpg modrasek_stirovnikovy_2013_08_30_bruzovice.jpg Again, Cupido argiades was the most abundant Aut...

Re: Padfield

Hermits are first species expected to extinct in CZE in the next decade(s). It seems to be pretty much inevitable right now, as they need large biotopes and high population density. They didn't even survive in Slovakia.

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Hello. The Croatian trip (including 2x15 hours spent behind the steering wheel) was lined with problems but also with some great species seen. The whole country is very nice (maybe saving their tolls called cestarina :D) and coastal city of Opatija is just great. Since I was prepared to do everythin...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Now something completely different - "annoyness of the season" - damn Large Copper :D They were washed down pretty badly during the late Spring washout, but I've seen 4 or 5 Summer generation ex. so far. That's still low. Photo taken 15 minutes before the sunset. ohnivacek_cernocarny_2013_...

Re: Padfield

Hi Guy, since I explore a (slightly) similar biotopes as you do, I'd like to ask some questions. What are the best biotopes hosting the highest species richness? Under what type of management? What are the biggest threats? How about (illegal) aforrestation, gradual ingrowth of not grazed/mowed meado...

Re: Long-Tailed Blue in W Sussex

OT: you Brits should look round for Bath Whites this year. Since they're recently surprisingly numerous in Central Europe, especially at abandoned mining sites and various sandy biotopes, there might be migrants. I hope it might be a good tip for a person living in the southern coastal area.

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I started experimenting with shooting under the evening sun with two favourable results so far: First I made many attempts on commoner Dryas species... okac_ovsovy_2013_08_02_knezdub.jpg ...while this Damon Blue - very scarce (everywhere outside the Alps?) - is the only ex. I met. modrasek_ligrusovy...

Re: Denmark butterflies

It's 1000% summer Map, of course - an entirely common Central or Continental European butterfly tied to nettles, often at ruderal, ugly sites - probably even in Denmark. I'd say as common as for you, lets say, Small White or Small Heath (eg., Maps are undoubtedly in my TOP 10 abundances at my transe...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Howdy! Long time no see, I know, but we have pretty temperature-crazy July barely seeing a single cloud in the sky. FINALLY :P Since people round me started to annoy me with photos of various Erebias, I improvized and joined another photographer on his way to Jeseníky Mts. that are reasonably near, ...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

No. It's uncommon. Note that the spots we're talking about are very mild even on a fresh female. Semiarguses are greatly variable here, though. At least females. I still remember one from southern parts of the mountains (where the species is fairly common), May 27 2012 - big, darker and kind of naus...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I have a pair of rubber boots and oodles of optimism! Besides, I'm a lightweight :D A lil' intermezzo - not long ago I made a detour after my work. To see just hatched Apollo males, a bit less lazy and clumsy than usual. 2013_07_01_stramberk_kotouc.JPG To tell the truth, I'm just not that into them ...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I have neither time nor motivation to photograph 'round my village, perhaps excluding elusive Lesser Purple Emperor (counted 3 ex. during last transect walk) and Black Hairstreak (1 ex. during last transect walk) flying altogether in this wacky year. But I couldn't resist to eternize this noseless L...
