http://s3.postimage.org/pn7575wiq/czechbutterflies16.png I'm pretty much closing up the butterfly season, 25 C almost everyday but no interesting species available, that's a bit ridiculous. Thanks for watching :D http://s3.postimage.org/tyey6m10/331647_2005872062638_1118737029_31694897_2020464.jpg ...

Re: August 2011 competition
As usual, I'm highly disappointed
But no worry, I'll try to finish on the podium in September. That would be as epic as Ayrton Senna finished on the podium in Monaco 1985 Grand Prix with similarly cheap technology

Re: Czech Republic - foothills of the Beskydy Mountains.
Since I'm still unemployed :D (I graduated in August 27) and because GREAT, almost non-stop sunny 20+ C weather lasts from the early August, I can't stop butterflying in any case :) The Septemer abundances are traditionally low, worst than in April - but some Queen of Spains and especially Small Cop...

Great project with crazy results (for a Central European).

No clues leading to the enclosed card, though

That might be Call of Duty, a videogame :) Out of curiosity, were there ever such things as cigarette cards in Czech Republic? Mike Unlikely. Moreover, it was a very heavy, dark socialism here in 1963. Recently I noticed a very simple wine cards of the Víno Mikulov (The Mikulov Vineyards) :D Our bu...

Re: Brooke Bond Cards - British Butterflies
Hey, I've been butterflying since cca 4-years-old! Obviously with pauses. But that still means 20 years of experience, which is quite lovely in my 25. AFAIK, the hobby was kept alive thanks to finding & catching rare or less-accessible species like Swallowtail, Purple Emperor, Camberwell Beauty,...

The peak might have been around May 12th and May 15th.
I wouldn't risk it even slightly later than 1st week of May, especially if your populations are not that abundant.

Thanks for the comments. Pete, AFAIK, Mountain Ringlet has a very strong populations in a certain (high) parts of some mountains of the Central Europe, and they are evidently "portable" from place to place (one of the Czech populations was set by a certain "butterfly fanatic" man...

Guys, I'll start wide. Since I can download the various studies, I find chasing & snapping several critically endangered (red listed, Natura 2000 included... take your pick, please) surprisingly easy. Having axis (or contacts), Large Blue took me only minutes, Scotch Argus took me some hours. Et...

I have no clue about the *best photo*. But it's a close encounter with Erebia aethiops I value the most. Because they've a very hard life here in south. Because they're locally dying on a few connected upland meadows, both because of hot summers and anti-Erebia management. I clearly remember I got t...

Re: Czech Republic - foothills of the Beskydy Mountains.
Since the weather was great and the butterfly season is pretty much falling off, I made a big tour around my monitored village, finding an interesting steep land meadow with good numbers of Six-spot Burnet . I'm going to continue following the place up in spring 2012. Speaking of Six-spot Burnet , I...

This is one of a few diaries I open quite regularly, both for interesting photos and interesting species (especially considering where you live).
Damn good bloody good damn good job
(I snapped Mr. Wall Brown today too, equally restless when nectaring.)
