Re: 2008 First

Re: August 2008

The first butterfly visited the Buddleia today, a Large White and that's it! A few passing Meadow Browns in recent days are the only other butterflies I've seen. I really hope it begins to pick up soon, looking at weather charts and models however it seems we will be in for an unsettled spell for a ...

Re: Recording your Sightings

Regarding recording Butterflies and Moths, I am unsure which branch to send Saddleworth sightings into, Yorkshire or Lancashire?

Yes they are! I've never seen one, though apparently they are moving north so maybe one day in the near future.

Interesting thanks, don't know all the species that can be found in this area but maybe something unusual may pay a visit one day.

Species attracted to Buddleia

Hello, I've been wondering how many different species are attracted to Buddleias? we get the usual visiting ours: Small Tortoiseshells, Red Admirals, Peacocks, Commas, Painted Ladies etc. but I have seen photos and records of other species visiting that I have never seen.

Re: July 24th > Onward

Still hardly any butterfies seen around here. A few Large Whites and Small Whites though and a large, fast flying, brown butterfly that I could not identify that looked like a Frit, but they are not normally seen around here so it was most likely a Comma.

Number one looks like a Dun-bar Cosmia trapezina don't know about 2, 3 I think your right with the Common Footman. Number 4 I think is a carpet called the Small Phoenix Ecliptopera silaceata I caught one myself the other night, and don't know about number five as I'm hopeless at micros.

Arnside Knott Weather

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what looks to be the best day for going to Arnside Knott this week weather wise? as I have a chance of going this week. Friday is the most likely day that I will be going although I could make it Thursday - Sunday.

Brimstones

Hi, can some tell me what is the best time and place to see Brimstones? as I have never seen them before, even though they are fairly common in places but obviously not in my area.
