the painted lady invasion of last year probably made it appear butterflys were very numerous, must say i have probably only seen a dozen ladies this year and very few red admirals/ orange tips up here in cheshire/shropshire. but other species especially small coppers/ brimstones in very high numbers...

thanks for comments yes i only shoot handheld, it just takes practise to brace camera in different shooting positions, ie resting left elbow on knee to hold steady. i use zerene stacker program which is currently the best focus stacking program available, there is a free program called czp which is ...

you might be able to get a second hand dslr body quite cheap , alot of camera shops part ex canon and nikon bodies. might even find a macro lens if lucky
even 4 year dslr will blow away a compacts image quality. long term a good investment.
