Re: March 2011

Yesterday friday 11th had a Brimstone alongside the Little Ouse river nr Santon Downham Norfolk, another couple said they also saw one some distance away on the village entrance road. Unfortunately the Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers did not show very well! Eric

Re: Could this be Spring?

Plenty of flowers out now here in Norfolk/Cambs if you look in the right place. I visited Anglesey Abby (240 varieties of snowdrop) last wednesday. Also been out with the camera in my garden. So I put together a "February flowers-Harbingers of Spring" album on webshots. If anyone cares to ...

Re: Butterfly "swarm" video

I am not sure if I mentioned this before (my mind is older than Jack's & less well trained as well! lol) but a few years ago I did a tour of Nevada. Into trees then & purpose was to see the Bristlecone pines on top of the mountains with a subsidary object of old mining ghost towns. In a narr...

Re: butterfly spooked by autofocus motor

When using my "Bridge" cameras I have thought for a long time that birds are spooked by the infrared, so many seem to fly away when the button is pressed halfway down. Eric

Re: Plans for next year?

Well it is now "next year" & my plans for 2011 are finalized. My friend & I both need to photograph 18 species to get up to the 58 British list (his is 2 species different to mine). 120 miles is the limit of our distance away from norfolk for a days drive & budget contraints me...

NickB, many thanks for posting those links. I know Alan Katz's white paper from Sony DPreview forum, as i have some sections of it bookmarked but not that one. I have tried to get the sony M3358 but no one seems to have it in stock now. Alan got good results stacking it with the 1758tc that I alread...

Re: Panasonic Lumix FZ38

Thanks Jack, I have ordered the Hoya 58mm +2 from Amazon for £17.64 del & supplied by camerakings. I thought you said you had the +2 diopter on & full zoom for the Camberwell? I missed the one you got as i had not set up the camera. Did get a poorer one than yours & higher up the tree ne...

Re: Panasonic Lumix FZ38

Jack, please excuse me for breaking into this thread but I need a 58mm close up lens for my new camera & you seem to have the expert knowledge. I tried the link for hoya lens in your post & changed spec to 58mm & Amazon have one for around £18 in +1+2+3+4 sizes. What would be the best on...

Re: Butterflies - A Very British Obsession

The rare moth comment reminded me that many years ago when the A149 was clogged up back to Kings Lynn on any sunny day, a bypass was planned that cut between the end of Dersingham bog & the common. Someone raised the question of a moth there, that had no records since 1947. Villagers up in arms ...

I should have mentioned in my original post that the discount code with Waterstones online website (applied at checkout) is only available untill December 20th. Mine arrived in good time & well packed. Took me awhile to read through it & I enjoyed it well, great value for £10. Some of the si...

I have only just found this thread as I do not read all forums. I feel I must make a strong defence of Centre Parcs, if you had seen the delight on childrens faces when the ducks & swans come knocking on the patio door you would appreciate what a splendid introduction to nature & woodland CP...
