Re: Comma - Favourite Photo of 2012

This was one of the very first butterflies i saw this year. It was photographed along the canal towpath close to Fenny Compton in Warwickshire on a lovely sunny day in March. I watched for an hour or so as this feisty butterfly challenged everything that entered it's territory including bumble bees,...

Re: Chalkhill Blue - Favourite Photo of 2012

Thank you Neil i'm pretty undecided and think upper and underside are equally as beautiful.

The tarmac background suits your cracking image really well.

Re: Chalkhill Blue - Favourite Photo of 2012

My first trip in search of Chalkhill Blues was to Aston Rowant on July 21st. The weather was good with spells of warm sunshine and i managed to find eight males all of which looked very fresh, including one that was happy to pose with his wings wide open. Re: Adonis Blue - Favourite Photo of 2012

Three of my favourite Adonis Blue images from this year. The first was taken on a visit to Mill Hill in May, and the second two were from the second brood at Swell's Hill in August.

Re: Skipper ID please

Hi Guy, Thanks for the quick reply. My Spanish girlfriend and i were angling towards Oberthür's grizzled for the first one due to the upperside markings, as you pointed out. We were also pretty sure that the second one was indeed Pyrgus carlinae cirsii which is the one i thought i had in June that t...

Re: Skipper ID please

Firstly a belated thank you to Guy and Roger for identifying the Olive Skipper i posted here last month, much appreciated chaps. I have another couple of Skippers that i would like you to take a look at. They were both photographed in the mountains north of Madrid a couple of weeks ago. The first on...

Re: Skipper ID please

These two photos were taken in Miraflores, north west of Madrid on June 19th. I'm not sure if it's Carline or Olive and would appreciate an expert opinion. I'm angling towards Carline partly because of the colouring of the unh.

Re: May 2012

Went over to Rodborough Common with my mates Pete Withers and Ray Seagrove today in search of the Duke of Burgundy. It was very windy when we arrived around lunchtime and the skies looked quite threatening. We walked to a sheltered spot at the foot of Bear Hill and soon found our target. Luckily the...

Re: May 2012

I drove down to Rewell Wood near Arundel yesterday with my good friend Ray Seagrove in the hope of seeing Pearl Bordered Fritillaries. We set of on the 130 mile drive amidst thick cloud which hadn't really cleared when we arrived at our destination around 9.30am. However we are always optimistic and...

Re: August 2011 competition

A big thankyou to everyone who voted for my Sooty Copper, i'm really chuffed to have won. I actually thought Bill's Clouded Yellow or nigpd's Chalkhill Blues would have grabbed top spot. These were my two favourites along with Philib's Brown Hairstreak and FISHEE'S Chalkhill Blue, although i must sa...
