Re: French Alps - 5th July to 12th July 2014
Hi David Cracking set of images especially the Pearly Heaths. I too visited the same area but only for four days, July 2nd - July 5th with my very good friend Pete Withers. Your tally of 100 species is very impressive, testament to the skills of Mr Gibbons I guess. We managed over 50 species, 8 of w...

Blue ID.
I've just returned from a four day trip to the French Alps with my good friend Pete Withers. We saw several species of blues including four new ones, Escher's, Glandon, Idas, and this one which we think is Amanda's. Confirmation from one of the experts would be very much appreciated. Re: April 2014
Yesterday Ben and I returned to Fenny Compton Tunnel Bank in Warks where we had seen our first male Orange Tip last month. The number of males had increased to 7 and we also found a single female. We also saw our first Green Veined White, Small White, and Red Admiral of the year as well as Peacock (...

Re: March 2014
A kick about in the sunshine at a local park yesterday morning prompted Ben (my 11yr old son) and I to visit a local butterfly site, Fenny Compton Tunnel Bank in Warks.. We had seen several male Brimestones flitting about in the morning and we were greeted at the site by two males that were patrolli...

Re: Meadow Brown - Favourite Photo of 2013
My favourite Meadow Brown image from 2013 has to be this mating shot taken at Aston Rowan in August. I arrived very early and was searching for roosting blues when i came across this pair low down in the dew covered grass. They seemed to have been joined together all night as they were both soaking ...

Re: Marsh Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2013
I didn't get to see Marsh Fritillary on home soil but luckily I visited Spain in May and June where they were in plentiful supply. I have two favourite images, the first from May and the second from June.

Re: Dark Green Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2013
Thanks to some info obtained from MikeOxon i spent a couple of days in July on a hillside at Bradenham where there were dozens of these beautiful butterflies flitting from plant to plant. I took hundreds of photos and below are a selection of my favourites, including an open under wing shot of a pri...

Re: Spring 2013 Competition
Thank you very much to the judges for choosing my Heath Fritillary image as the winning entry. The image was taken on a mountain track in Southern France during a four day trip last month. Congratulations to the other three placed entries, of which FISHEE's Marsh Fritillary was my favourite, i've ne...

Re: June 2013
Last night i visited Bishop's Hill in Warwickshire in search of roosting Common Blues. The site is most famous for it's thriving Small Blue colony and as i arrived i saw many settling down in the tall grasses. The hill itself was awash with Oxeye Daises and Kidney Vetch and within five minutes i fou...

Re: Small Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2012
I found an abundance of Small Skippers including several copulating pairs at Aston Rowant in late July and took far too many photos, so i have five favourites. The first four images were captured on July 21st whilst the final, and probably my most favourite was taken on July 27th. SmallSkipper.jpg S...
