Re: Pauline

Hi Pauline

Great wolf shots, Helen would love them.

Thanks for information. I'll look into this for a trip next year.

Re: Pauline

Hi Pauline

I love the Dormice photos and please please please if you ever go again and are allowed to take a friend I would love to see these beautiful little animals.

Flossie is well worth the effort. Just glad she's still around.

All the best.

Re: Pauline

Hi Pauline Yes, Flossie is as mischievious as any cat and you wouldn't realise she'd been in an accident. I guess she wouldn't be around today if Helen Hadn't brought her home. I can't complain too much as we eventually photographed and filmed several LTBs, making my 59th species filmed in Britain. ...

Re: Pauline

Hi again Pauline Just to let you know I think your Cricket is probably a female Long-winged Conehead. Cone shaped head and long wings surprisingly. The ovipositor is also fairly straight. This is much more scimitar shaped in the Short-winged Conehead. Flossie (the cat) is doing quite well at the mom...

Re: Pauline

Some fabulous photos of the LTBs Pauline. I'm quite jealous of them. Shame I didn't recognise you as I think I was standing directly behind you when the shadow was put on the female LTB. I guess I was too transfixed by the LTBs. Shame she didn't open her wings as I didn't get a shot of an open winge...

Re: Long Tailed Blues in Sussex

Hi Lee

Sounds like the best plan. I'd be interested in finding out a bit more about the site along the railway bank near Reculver and Minnis Bay as I'd consider one more trip to try for some more video of a female with her wings open.

Good luck.

Re: Long Tailed Blues in Sussex

Hi Lee

Are you planning on trying two sites in one day. If so just to warn you it took me 3 hours to trvel from Newhaven area to Kingsdown Leas in Kent.

Good luck

Re: Sussex Kipper

All I can say is "Nice One" Neil.

We dipped at this site due to the weather on Saturday. I think any site with previous sightings would have been fine in the weather on Sunday.

Great shots

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Thanks Neil especially for your help in looking for the LTBs. I must admit, if there had been none on Sunday the madness probably would have crept up on me. Luckily we connected though.

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Hi again Haven't even looked at the video yet but have downloaded the still images. Nothing fantastic but some nice reminders of our attempts to find these little beauties. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and not forgetting all the other folks there today from the Midlands, well done to you...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Hi Lee Glad you were confident as I was just hopeful but it was well worth the 1500 miles or so in the end. This wasn't a totally new species for me having had poor views overseas but these were my first UK LTBs and by far the best views ever. one or two sat and allowed photographers to within an in...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Oh Yessss as Churchill often says, what a great day at Kingsdown Leas. Two Clouded Yellows and four LTBs preventing me from a nervous breakdown or worse. The Clouded Yellows were both fly byes but the LTBs behaved very well. One female was very worn but two males and a second female were in great co...

Hi Adrian
Did you see them on the seaward side of the road?
Hope to see you early in the sun.

Thanks for the encouragement Lee, this will be my last attempt.

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Oh give me strength!!! We decided to visit a site suggested by Neil today in East Sussex for LTB today and after around 4 hours, constant cloud and much dog poo later we dipped again seeing none of the little blighters. Thus extremely dis-chuffed (polite understatement) especially as we decided to b...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Hi Dave

Thanks for the information. I will definitely be heading south over the weekend maybe on Saturday and Sunday. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a glimpse of Blue with Long tails.

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Helen and I will make the trip again on Sunday when the weather looks best and hope that we can connect.

Does anyone know if the Pea plants are still intact on the reserve as I guess those on the roadside have all been removed by strimming activity.

Thanks

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

I don't regret visiting the site last weekend as I did get to see my first British Great Green Bush Cricket and an Angle Shades Moth. If I go again this weekend I plan to visit nearby locations and look for Pea plants with fingers crossed if there are no LTBs at Kingsdown. I agree Dave it is a very ...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Hi lee

Thanks, although this is what I tried last Saturday, just wished I'd stayed overnight and turned up with you on the Sunday.

I'll keep my fingers crossed as the weather looks decent on Saturday and Sunday.

Cheers

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Have there been any sightings of Long-tailed Blue at Kingsdown Leas this week or at any other sites. I'm sure this information would be helpful for anyone planning to visit this weekend. I hope to make the journey but will be reluctant if there have been no sightings during this last week. Thanks to...
