Pearl-bordered Sites - North west area

Post by Dave »

Hi, I've always seen my Peal-bordereds at Bentley Wood but this year am hoping to see them closer to home. Could anyone provide further information on the following sites, ie where to park and where exactly the butterflies are.
Eyarth Rocks
Gait Barrows
Leighton Moss
Warton Crag
Just one will do but I'm hedging my bets. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,

I went to Gait Barrows on Saturday and the PBF weren't out yet. You can park on the road next to the reserve (there are a few lay-bys). If you follow any of the marked trails you're likely to come across them (in my experience) they're actually very common there! Not so common are the Duke of Burgundy, but persistence will reward. Try in a couple of weeks... if you go before the end of May, you'll avoid confusion with the Small Pearl-bordered fritillaries, which can also be found there.

Regards, Chris

Thanks for that - I'll probably give it 10 days or so then. I don't usually get to Bentley until the Small-pearl Bordered have just emerged so fairly used to sorting them out :-)
