Hi

Many thanks for organising this. Without categories this year, can you clarify if it means just butterflies taken in the UK are eligible or can we submit overseas taken butterflies still?

Best wishes

Jim

It means anything - immature stages, behaviour, overseas etc. etc. - the only constraint is that the photo has something to do with butterflies!

Exciting. I am so looking forward to seeing the best of the best as it were. I do not envy the judges as the quality of the photography here is amazing.

Best of luck to everyone who enters :D

Just wondering what image file size to upload for the competition??
I normally only upload quite small image file sizes such as 600 x 800, or 600 x 450 etc.
But since its a competition, i thought i might try a few larger file sizes.

Ive looked at several images entered in this comp. and it would seem that no file sizes go beyond 1024 x

So as an example, could i upload an image file size of say - 1024 x 908 ?

Cheers Paul.

I think 1200 is the max.

The limit is 5MB ... there is no limit on image dimensions.

Hi all,

Congrats to Bill Symonds, winner of the annual photo competition for this year. The top 15 can be found at http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/competit ... ?year=2018

And thanks to everyone who entered. This had to be the toughest year ever for judging, and my thanks also go to Gary and Lisa Richardson, Mark Colvin, Neil Hulme and Guy Padfield for their help.

Cheers,

- Pete

Many congratulations to Bill,Tony and Nigel. Well done also to the judges as I could not have picked a winner out of that lot. :) I am pleased as punch with fourth...I was as ever more hopeful until some of the big hitters started to submit entries. Im very lucky to be top ten I reckon.

So many wonderful photographs. Judging must have been like the Brexit negotiations. All competitors should be very proud of their entries.

Thanks to Pete for running this competition and website and to the judges who have the task of picking a winner. I must say it was a lovely surprise to win, looking at the page of top 15 the standard of entries in this competition is very high so well done to all that entered. I particularly liked Nigel's Green Hairstreak (I never seem to see it on anything remotely attractive) and the choice of aspect ratio for the Spanish Festoon. The images from acherontia96 I also enjoyed because of the background colour contrast with the butterflies. And Searle's Common Blue is a fantastic capture of butterfly and habitat.

Thanks again and well done all those who entered, and I'll enjoy the DVD Pete has sent, what a brilliant early Xmas present.

Chuffed to bits

Cheers

Bill
