Astounding news of the discovery of a large Black Hairstreak colony on Ditchling Common, Sussex. This appears to be an introduced but naturalised population and research is going on to try to establish further details. The full story was reported on the Sussex BC branch website https://www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk/news/#76 with credit to David Cook for making the initial sightings.

Great sighting! Let's hope this might be a repeat of the 2014 influx of this species.

There have been a couple of sightings on the Dutch coast this month, and it may also be of interest that a mass emergence has been observed in the Kiev area, Ukraine.
