A butterfly from Amsterdam

Post by CFB »

My granddaughter sent me this photo of a butterfly in the Jardin Botanique in Amsterdam. Could someone please identify it.

Hi Colin. These are Cethosia biblis, the red lacewing, from south and east Asia.

I recall (it was perhaps 30 years ago) walking in from the hotel where I was staying about 2 kms from Amsterdam centre one spring morning.
In the totally urban environment, I was surprised – and delighted – to see several Brimstones.
