Non SLR camera users

I only have a Samsung Digimax L85 (cannot yet afford a D SLR). How would you get good pics with a camera like this? Link to camera: http://www.samsungcamera.co.uk/product/ ... cat_uid=10
If anyone can help it be good. I want to get flyig shots and feeding shots, but I find it hard. Feeding shots are reletivley easy since they ignore you but the camera only has a 1/2000 sec and its still too bright in some cases.
