Chalkhill Blue - Favourite Photo of 2017

So the Favourite Photo enters round 2!

Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As like last year details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.
Here we go then! :D

Have a goodun

Hi Folks,
Here we have a pair of Chalkhill Blues from the border between the Bouches du Rhone and the Var, south of France, at 650 m altitude in mid August. They are perched on Cephalaria leucantha.

Chalkhill Blues were out in large numbers at the brilliant Temple Ewell / Lydden NNR. in Kent ,and although I watched Chalkhills at one or two other sites in Mid- Kent ,mine were both from Temple Ewell (as were Goldies ) ,I had a couple of early morning visits,to find them at rest ,and as the morning progressed I reckon there were easily 150-200+ on the wing (,on both occasions,)

This one perched on some Agrimony caught me eye one afternoon on Denbies Hillside

I thought I'd go for the more unusual this time...

From Denbies on 11th August comes this female with an unusual amount of blue.

From the same location, on 23rd July, I've also picked out a female "Silver-studded Chalkhill Blue".

Didn't see this species at all in the UK in 2017. However, the early season in the Alps meant that many more than usual were observed between 29th June and 15th July. This individual taking minerals was probably the only one I took individually; the rest were amongst groups of other butterflies:

I always enjoy looking at Chalkhill Blues and always seem to end up with plenty of photographs.

This has to be my favourite Chalkhill Blue photo this year because it is the only decent one I got. It was early in the season at Therfield Heath, Hertfordshire. Later in July and August my free days seemed always to coincide with poor weather.

Chalkhill Blue

This was taken at Broughton Down at the end of July. It’s my favourite as it was the first decent luck that I’ve had with this species from this site. I’ve known that they were here and I’ve caught glimpses of their ghostly blue forms in the past but I’ve never had more of a glimpse. Yet on this visit I was lucky enough to encounter several males right at the top of the site. Hence any images form this site on this day were the first set that I looked at when considering my favourites and this one stood out from all the others.

I'll repost this here as I had nice comments in my diary about it. It was taken during a wonderful day at Ivinghoe Beacon.

The only Chalkhill Blues that I saw this season were a few mostly worn and faded examples that were still hanging in there on Bindon Hill when we stayed at Lulworth Cove for a few days in early September.
