Common blue locations

Post by it344x »

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if the foodplants of the larvae ( or where the eggs are laid ) are the same as the foodplants of the grown up?

I can see from the foodplants link above what the Common Blue will eat but am not sure if that neccessarily relates to what the caterpillars eat , so I could be looking in completely the wrong places !

many thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,

The foodplants refer to the foodplants of the larvae only. The adults may well us nectar sources that are not the same as the larval foodplant.

ok - first common blue sighting this year for me today - nowhere more exotic than the front garden - very small and fading to a lighter crystal blue towards the body ( I assume that is a common blue ! ) . The little blighter settled down just long enough for me *not* to get my camera before flying orf - oh well :-)

Hi Martin - more likely to be a Holly Blue at this time of year! See

The undersides of the Common Blue and Holly Blue are quite different.
