Fritillaries

Post by Andrew R »

Hi, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find Fritillaries in the North East or Northern part of England?

Someone said there are Dark Green Fritillaries in Teesdale?

What is the best month to see them?

Thanks Andy :)

Hi Andrew,

If you click on the 'sites' link in the top menu, it suggests you should visit Fen Bog. I have never visited the site myself, though I do live nearby, so intend to this summer.

In my experience (the North York Moors is my 'local patch') they are fairly widespread across the moors during July and August. I have found them all over, but rarely in any numbers.

The moors are also home to Small Pearl Bordered and Duke of Burgundy, but these are harder to find.

Your best bet is to make the journey over to the Lake District and search there, where many of the fritillaries can be found in good numbers. Again, the 'sites' pages on this website will show you the best places to start.

Cheers,

Chris
