BROWN ARGUS?

Is the attached photo of a common blue or brown argus(taken on Menorca recently).Thanks Jim Cobb

That is a (quite magnificent) Brown Argus! Not sure what species you get in that part of the world, I believe the southern European ones have recently been split off as a separate species based on genetic studies.

Hi Jim and Bugboy,
Indeed the forward wing upperside full orange marks running to the tip are indicative of Brown Argus. This criterion becomes less reliable when the individual is very worn. The arrangement of the hind wing underside spot in space 7 (displacement toward the wing base) in this case is more reliable.

Aricia cramera in the Balearics - like brown argus but much brighter. This is a beautiful individual.
