I think this is a Red Sword Grass

Hi Jack,

At work at the moment but I think 1 is a red sword-grass and 3 is early grey

Oh,

And 2 may be Water Carpet but you will need to take a closer look

Townsend and Waring suggests 2 is more likely to be Broken-barred Carpet if only because of the shape (notch) and back of hind wings where they meet the body.

Thanks for Early Grey. That had crossed my mind but didn't quite fit but does now on further check!

Goodness, aren't butterflies easy by comparison?

This is a regular in the trap and it is presumably common. But the name escapes me even though I have seen many times in the past.

Looks good to me. It's very like the "Scottish specimen" illustrated in Waring & Townsend.
