Moth ID please

Seen today when watering the garden. At about 200 metres altitude in the Alpes-Maritimes. Quite big, about the size of a Red Admiral.

Hi Coin. That's a female oak eggar, Lasiocampa quercus. See:

Thanks a lot Guy, that's great. There's a photo in Tristan Lafranchis's book "Papillons de France" but I didn't recognize it, as mine was much paler (a female?)

Yes, she's a female. The antennae give that away immediately.

Thanks Guy for the link and information.
I saw one Oak Eggar female (on the ground also) at Whiteford Burrows on Saturday 5th September and until I read this thread, I had mistaken it with the Fox Moth...
Also, I've just read that the Fox moth is around in May June whereas the Eggar Moth is out later until late September....
