Fritillary ID

Hi

I've posted these before, but only got one tentative response so I thought I'd try my luck again.

Both taken on Jun 6th 2014 in the Sierra de Tejeda, Andalucia. Apologies for the poor quality of the photos; neither insect was too keen to pose.

I'm interested in any opinions on Spanish or Marsh Fritillary.

Thanks, Rupert

The dark marks on the fwu suggest desfontainii to me, but I've only seen a couple, so wait for an expert opinion.

I'm afraid I incline the other way. The forewing upperside submarginal lunules contain quite a lot of red, rather than being pearl white, and the pd band is relatively narrow. The other markings are consistent with marsh fritillary too and I think that is what it is.

Thanks for your responses. Much as I would have liked them to be Spanish, a species I hadn't previously encountered, I am inclined to agree with Guy.
