After several very frustrating hours , I finally found an SPBF depositing an egg instead of just pretending to.. ...

Nice picture ! Do you have a picture of the context also and of the butterfly in the process of laying?

Hi Sylvie,

When looking for laying females, I can't cope with a camera as well  .

This egg was found in the Sherbrook Valley on Cannock Chase after watching several females crawling around in the grass and dead Bracken near to flushes of Marsh Violets. I saw several curved abdomens (abdomina? - abominable...), but no eggs ( I think they were just pushed out into the surrounding vegetation, where they immediately vanished. Eventually' I saw one actually deposit an ovum on a piece of dead grass. The picture was photostacked at home and the egg returned to the site the following day.
