Heres hoping! And many thanks.

Hi Allan,

I`ve just returned from spending 2 days in Salisbury. On Friday, 5 June, at Martin Down ( off the A354 Salisbury to Blandford road) I found 3 Marsh Frits just north of the old gun emplacements. They still looked in reasonable condition too so you could still be lucky there. Also, Small, Common and Adonis Blue seen here (the latter in good numbers, I estimate 30 - 40 ). Many Brimstone also, Grizzled Skipper x 2, Painted Lady x 2, Orange Tip male x 1,Large Skipper x 1. Later that afternoon at Bentley Wood, south of Salisbury, I had 6 x Small Pearl Bordered Frits, all fresh individuals. The next day, Saturday, was much cooler and cloudier and fewer butterflies flying. I did eventually see about the same number of SPBF, and 1 very old and tatty Pearl Bordered Frit. If you`re further west than Salisbury, the Cerne Abbas Giant hill can be good for Marsh Frit.

Good hunting,

Jenks.

According to a 7th June record, 30 Marsh Frits seen at Cotley Hill (just outside Warminster) - http://www.wiltshire-butterflies.org.uk ... etail.aspx

The site is very easy to find, and, apart from being a bit steep-sided (as I personally found out, painfully, a couple of years ago!), is very accessible.

Cheers, Jon
