I folks,
I ran around taking photos of this fellow thinking I'd discovered a new species of BF, but I think its a moth actually.
It had me fooled because there were many of them and they behaved pretty much like BFs, in full sunlight.
Photos taken in the Var, in South of France. Any idea what it is ?

Is this Frit a Meadow (parthenoides), or something else, please ? Also seen in the Var (France).

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris. Your moth is a Mother Shipton (Euclidia mi) and I can confirm that the butterfly is a meadow fritillary (Melitaea parthenoides).

Mother Shipton is practically an honorary butterfly.

Many times I've tracked what I've thought to be a Grizzled Skipper only for it to turn out to be an MS.

I love the name too...a real corker given the 'witch's nose' this species has on its upper forewings.

Thanks, Dilettante, Guy and David.
The Mother Shipton has got great markings. I'll be keeping the photos for my records.
