Locations

Post by NickC »

I was wondering what people's thoughts would be on trying to perhaps add a little more detail on locations when posting sightings. I very much enjoy reading what people have seen, and viewing photos of them. It's great to know whereabouts the sighting are too, but often the location given is just a local name of a wood or common etc., which unless you are local or happen to have visited you are unlikely to know where in the country it is. Yes I could try looking it up on the Internet (and I have done on occasion), but it would be nice to immediately know, perhaps by people at least giving the county of a location when they mention it. What do other people think?

I usually try to give a more precise 'locale' when reporting my UK sightings.

Sometimes, however, I am guilty of assuming people will automatically know of the location because it is so iconic - take Glasdrum Wood in Argyll for example with Chequered Skippers.

It seems that posters are including counties a lot more now, which is very much appreciated, thanks.
