Clouded Yellow perhaps.

Post by agavegeoff »

Hi, All.
Spotted this whilst mowing the grass on a warm windy day, 19th Oct, 2014 Thought it looked out of place and realised it was not a normal white butterfly. This photo is the best I could do.
Hope you think it is a Clouded Yellow as I have not seen one of these before.

It is! Congratulations. Probably a white 'helice' female.

Funny I've just seen cjackson two clouded yellows thread and it was the flash of orange that got me chasing after this one.
I might add it was in Gloucestershire uk.

Hi,
If you saw a flash of orange (dark yellow), then it was probably Colias crocea, not the white female helice form, which at first sight looks like a grubby white until your eye becomes trained.
Having said that, your crocea does look pale.
Soon, on my Marseille checklist thread, I'll put up a selection of my crocea and alfacariensis photos from this year.
Cheers, Chris
