Just a quick mention of my first sighting, two red admirals close to Borthwood, Apse Heath on the Isle of Wight on 22 Jan 2006. It was quite warm in the spot where we we're walking when we saw them. hopefully the first of many...

Hi Zoe,

It would be great if you could also submit your sightings to the Hampshire and IOW BC branch also, using their form at:

http://www.hantsiow-butterflies.org.uk/ ... _form.html

I'm still thinking about how we could combine the UK Butterflies sightings topic, and the various BC branch sightings forms, in order to minimise the number of posts you have to make. Given that others may post from other parts of the country. I'm not sure it's appropriate for the UK Butterflies website to become a portal for all sightings in the UK, but will look into how we can facilitate this (so that sightings get passed on, and formally recorded), since I appreciate seeing images and getting reports ASAP from the recorder, which is a facility that the UK Butterflies website has!

Cheers,

- Pete

No problem Pete

I have already sent my sightings to the BC site as well. It's hard to know which is the best way to inform everyone of the sigthings. I will watch this space...

Are there any good butterfly sites near Ryde please? I was thinking of Adonis, Glanvilles and Chalkhills.

I can explain why I want this information, but it is a long story.

Hi Andy

I am lead to believe that Brading Down, the next town from Ryde should be a good place for the Chalkhills. The only place I've ever seen the Glanvilles is along the southwest part of the island. That's not to say that they may not be in other parts of the island. According to the Millenium atlas we do get them on the isalnd but I'm yet to see any. On my website I have updated a distibution map so you can see what has been spotted in which area, this is work in progress as I have a full time job and have just started an MSc so only have limited time to get out etc.
