Notes and Views - a Retrospective (before 01-Oct-14)

Post by Pete Eeles »

The purpose of this thread is to identify observations that have been made in the forums before 1st October 2014, but are not formally documented anywhere (but you think they should be!). The intention is to get such items formally published via the new Dispar website. If you can think of anything that you have posted (or someone else has posted) then please reply to this thread with a link to the relevant item. Thanks!

Cheers,

- Pete

The extraordinary tale of a Large White larva which survived parasitism by Apanteles glomeratus (and the likely explanation by Maximus).

Possibly the best in-flight sequence of Brimstone courtship behaviour ever posted (in this case the female rejecting the male). By Dave Browne (Buchan Boy).

Good stuff! I remember a post regarding the colour of the antenna of the female Large Skipper, but can't find it. Anyone remember? Thx!

A classic example of a casual observation becoming a new discovery. In this case that the male and female Large Skipper can be differentiated by the colour of the antenna tips alone. First reported by Pauline in June 2011.

April 2014. An interesting comparison showing the size of a classic parasitic fly and its puparium in relation to the Small White pupa from which it emerged. Reared by Vince Massimo

A great sequence by Maximus showing a Brown Hairstreak larva emerging from an egg and then disappearing into a leaf bud.

An amazing image of an Orange-tip larva which appears to show structures associated with the developing wings showing through the skin. Taken by William.
