Any idea what butterfly these belong to, there are on the leaves of a Bleeding heart plant in my garden. There are hundreds of them on the leaves. Thanks x

Unlikely to be the eggs of a UK butterfly and my guess would be those of a sawfly. I can't see from your photo, but if there are more than 10 velcro-like legs at the back (i.e. if these legs go all the way along the underside of the body) in addition to the 6 pointy legs at the front, it will be a sawfly. If they have only 10 "legs" at the back (5 pairs) in addition to the 6 pointy legs (3 pairs) at the front, they could be caterpillars of a moth.

Thanks that explains why I was having difficulty identifying them :/ i have seen some older caterpillars on the same plant and I think they have those 5 pairs of legs towards their rear so they are probably moth ( I will check tomorrow and post a pic) thanks again x
