Swinerton MoD near Stone, Staffs

Post by Tony Moore »

I was fortunate to have an invitation to visit this MoD training site this afternoon. It is little changed since WW2, and, despite no active management, is the best site for Grizzled Skipper that I have ever seen. They were everywhere - we must have seen close to 100 individuals in three hours. Otherwise, only the usual suspects. I did find a stunning, fresh female Common Blue, which was the bluest one I've ever seen:

That is a truly stunning icarus female, Tony. I personally have only ever seen one SO suffused with blue.

Great find!
