I'm traveling to the IOW tomorrow for Glanville Fritillary...(Just paid for the Ferry...so committed now!)

Looking at searching the Compton Bay area and possibly Wheelers Bay if necessary...

Does anyone have any current info about sights/numbers/locations...

I know they're a sensitive species...but their presence at these sites is in the public domain...so any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

Visited the IOW today (May 21st) for Glanville's

Day was mainly overcast with little Sunshine, though warm and humid.

None seen at Compton Bay (Painted Lady, Wall, Common Blue present - also good numbers of Silver Y moths...so may be worth checking the area for immigrants - Clouded Yellow etc)

Walked from Bonchurch to Ventnor along the undercliff at Wheelers Bay; 5 - 6 Glanville Fritillary seen, none obvious mostly roosting or tucked into grass tussocks out of the breeze. All seemed quite reluctant to fly.

Disastrous Day! Camera broken when taking it out of the bag (Zoom/Autofocus motor problem) so only managed blurry record shots on work's Blackberry LOL

Also speaking to locals...lots of talk of large numbers of people collecting in the Undercliffe area in recent weeks with collecting pots etc...

Best to try Wheelers by walking towards Bonchurch. I have not seen anyone with collecting pots and would be disappointed to see this when photographs are the best way to remember this amazing butterfly.
