Winter Storms

Your thoughts about the impact of gales and flooding on butterflies.

Ian Pratt can no doubt bring us up to date on a specific query. How has the Isle of Wight Glanville Fritillary habitat fared in the recent storms? I am well aware that regular cliff erosion creates the right habitat for the butterfly, but after this winter it would hardly be surprising if it takes a few years for the population to recover.

I would presume that the feeble mainland colony at Hurst Castle (don't know if it was even still there in 2013) will have been destroyed by inundation and loss of habitat.
