Newbie with two 'pillers to ID

On holiday in Scotland we found these two catterpillers which we (being total amaters) have been unable to identify. I suspect the first one at least might be a moth rather than a butterfly but can you help?

This one we found on heather - he was gently moved to get a better picture then returned to where we found him.

We found this one on the way up Ben Nevis. He's a bit out of focus but that's a very distinctive black spike on his back.

top one is definitely a Fox Moth

can't help with the second... superficially it resembles a Comma butterfly, but it's the wrong time of year and it looks more hairy than spikey. What plant did you find it on?
