Two more from the Philippines

Common Birdwing.jpg
This amazing insect was sailing around a small valley near the coast at San Juan. It was being 'buzzed' by a very aggressive 'Eggfly', which looked about a quarter its size. I think it may be a Filipino version of the Common Birdwing.
Common Grass Yellow.jpg
One of the 'Grass Yellows', I think, probably Common GY. They rarely rest, and then usually deep in the vegetation - I was very lucky with this one. These are the most amazing islands - massive development everywhere, but pockets of forest with the most astonishing butterflies. Sadly, few allow photo opportunities, but hope springs eternal....

More soon, with luck,

Your first butterfly is, as you say, a birdwing, Troides rhadamantus. What a treat!! It seems to be called the 'golden birdwing' on the web.

I wouldn't dare try to identify the Eurema species without a field guide specifically to Philippine butterflies, but it certainly seems compatible with Eurema hecabe, the common grass yellow, which flies throughout the Old World tropical regions.

Brilliant stuff.

Thanks, Guys,

I'm enjoying finding them, frustrating though it often is.
