Just to let everyone know that the yearly review of the images in the Species-Specific Albums gallery/album.php?album_id=160 will commence shortly. These albums are the repository of all images contributed by members and serve to feed the individual Species Pages eg. http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species. ... cardamines, as well as the Species Identification Section http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species_ ... &stage=all and Stock Photo Library http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/stock_index.php .These are different from the Species-Specific Forums where species-related topics are discussed and which hosts such items as the "Favourite Photos of 2013".
Are you all still with me? :)

The review will involve pruning out the lower-quality images, duplicates, and some which have been superseded by improved (or better labelled) shots. The aim is not only to provide the most up-to-date and extensive image library of butterflies of the British Isles anywhere on the web, but ultimately also to serve as a valuable scientific resource. For these reasons it would be very helpful if posted images contained information regarding location and date (most easily included in the "Imagename" box). This would not apply to sensitive sites.

Fresh images for inclusion into the Species-Specific Albums will now mainly be selected by moderators, who will monitor the various personal diaries, sightings reports, personal albums and photo competitions. We do not want to discourage anyone from submitting images, but would ask that you first read the Gallery Guidelines http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/gallery_guidelines.php .If you are new to the website and have a library of images, then I would suggest that you firstly open a personal album. If in any doubt about an image, then please ask.

My continued thanks go to everyone who has contributed images to the Species-Specific Albums in the past. If anybody has any comments or questions about the review, then please post them here or send me a PM.

Vince

And a big thanks to you, Vince, for helping raise the quality of images used all over the website. I know how much effort you put into this and I, for one, really appreciate it! Look forward to seeing you on Saturday at the Sussex AGM!

Cheers,

- Pete

Thanks Pete :D , but it's a team effort and I rely on quality images from members.
The Sussex BC AGM this Saturday is always a great social event, but will be even better this year with the inclusion of the UK Butterflies stand and no doubt will be very well attended. I'm really looking forward to it.

Cheers,
Vince

I can now announce that the yearly review of all the images in the Species-Specific Albums and Identification pages has been completed :D

My thanks go to everyone who has contributed images over the years and apologies to those who may have had some of theirs deleted in the latest clean-up. The aim is not only to continue to improve the quality of the images in these albums, but also to expand the coverage of different aspects (such as behavior) exhibited by certain species. I will continue to monitor sightings reports, personal diaries and personal albums for these, but if you think you have an image that improves upon one already in the albums, or adds to the resource, then please submit it for consideration. Please don't forget to append details of the site and date.

During the course of the review, the opportunity was also taken to improve upon some reference images in the Secondary Species list and particular thanks for this goes to Roger Gibbons who allowed me unlimited access to his website :D.

The gaps that remain are becoming increasingly difficult to fill, these now being mainly in the immature stages and Secondary list. There are, of course, many sub-species that also have to be fully covered.

If you click on the green species name, you will then be taken to the individual Species page and the wealth of information it now contains (thanks to ongoing work by Pete). This should keep you all occupied until Spring arrives..........
