Hello,
I work at a large arboretum and today I was shown a group of caterpillars completely defoliating the leaves of a species of Southern Beech. I know next to nothing about Butterflys or moths but looking online I think they look like large white larvae, though Nothofagus isn't there normal fodder. Can anyone on here confirm what these caterpillars are? .

Many thanks in advance, Jim.
