Butterfly or moth ID

Post by andy_j »

Saw this little critter today, looks a bit moth like sitting on a nice big Rudbeckia. It was only about 1.5-2cm

Any ideas ?

It is indeed a moth - Pyrausta aurata.

Thanks for that Guy, right next to the rudbeckia is a large drift of Monarda or sweet bergamot so maybe that's why her was there. Lovely moth though.
