Martin Warren interview

Hi all,

I visited Butterfly Conservation HQ today and, unfortunately, Martin Warren wasn't available (for personal reasons). I'll therefore be rescheduling the interview with Martin for a later date. But many thanks to all of you who passed questions on for me to ask.

I had a great time all the same though - with the buddleias in the courtyard alive with Red Admirals and Hummingbird Hawkmoths. See photo below. Also perusing the library was amazing - even flicking through the first ever copy of Frohawk's "Natural History of British Butterflies" off the press, signed by him to his wife, Mabel, and donated to BC (and autographed) by his daughter, Valezina.

Cheers,

- Pete

Pleased to report that I spent today at BC HQ and have finally interviewed Martin! Expect to see the result in the next week or so, once I've managed to get it typed up.

What a wonderful chap. And some interesting responses to some interesting questions from the UK Butterflies membership.

I'll leave you guessing until then to find out what Martin's favourite butterfly is :) Yes - he does have one!

Cheers,

- Pete

Hmm I think his favourite butterfly is either the Heath Fritillary or Chequered Skipper.

Martin has worked extensively on Wood White and Heath Fritillary. So - Heath Fritillary is a good guess.

But all species mentioned are wrong :)

I've written the interview up and sent it to Martin for approval. Once I get his OK I'll post it up.

Cheers,

- Pete

Thanks Wayne - my pleasure. It was a real delight to "talk shop" with Martin and his team. There are so many "big names" at BC HQ that it makes your head spin!

I also asked Martin who I should interview next. He suggested Jeremy Thomas (of Large Blue fame). Sounded like a good choice to me :)

Cheers,

- Pete

Pete,
Thanks for sharing this with us, what a great interview and such a nice guy, lets hope that BC gains in recognition (and funding) under Martin's inspirational leadership.

Regards,

Richard.
