I am visiting Middletown on the central shropshire/welsh border next week. Happy to travel up to an hour for a decent site.
I have heard there are some High Brown fritillaries over that way but not sure whether there are any reliable sites?
Any help is much appreciated!
Cheers
Alex

Try Whixall Moss for large heath (near the end of their emergence) and white faced darter but take protection against the mosquitoes.

Alex,
I spent a very enjoyable afternoon at Llanymynech Rocks (just south of Oswestry) at the beginning of June. It was a top site for spring butterflies and the views are to die for. It is managed by the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust I believe. The habitat there is sure to provide a good range of species (although perhaps not HBF).

Prees Heath, is not to far from Whixall Moss too.
The west midlands butterfly conservation have a good book for that suggests.
Bury Ditches
Wigmore Rolls
Bircher Common
Highgate Common
and the Wyre Forrest is also on the Shropshire Border.
