Unfortunately I've been unable recently to go on long trips so I've been concentrating on local sites where I can get to and from quickly as well as buying a moth trap to get my Lepidoptera fixes!! The moth trap yesterday was mad with the biggest catch so far including a couple of moths that I struggled with id. A couple of very knowledgeable contacts also struggled with one of them and suggested contacting Colin Pratt who is the Sussex recorder. Colin has now informed me that it is a 'melanic' form of the Riband Wave. This form has never been recorded in Sussex before!! Later in the day I was looking for WL Hairstreaks when a strange Large Skipper appeared just by me. I put this on the website last night and Guy Padfield very kindly informed me it was an ab.pallida. This is amazingly also a first for Sussex according to Colin.
