Great Orme for Silver Studded Blue

Don't suppose if anybody knows whether the Silver Studded Blue's are out on the Great Orme just yet?

I'm suspecting its still a little early? If they aren't out yet, does anyone have any guesses about when they might be out, bearing in mind that everything still seems 3 weeks late this year.

Cheers in advance
Paul

Hi, I have just got back from a few days in Llandudno and yes the Silver-Studded Blues are out, I couldn't believe my luck when I saw my first which I saw just above Happy Valley though a gate leading to the slopes, we walked the Orme and didn't see any, so I went back to the same place many times whilst we were there, got hundreds on photos, males, females and mating pairs were seen all very freshly emerged, I would say that each day more had emerged so obviously numbers will build hopefully. I could have stayed longer but had to come home. We went last year and saw none but I was a little late I think and the weather wasn't great. I've now got loads of Photos to go through, you can never have too many. Hope you get chance to see them, I wouldn't leave it too much longer though. Regards Stu

Hi Paul,
l went to Llandudno last Tuesday,18/6/13 the weather was cloudy & windy but not cold. I went to the West Bay, parked up close to the end of the road opp. the kids boating pool and walked to start of the Great Orme cliff walk. There is a little building, (which is for sale) at the start of the walk. Just as you go thru the gate here, there is a little patch of scrub land on the right, just before the first bend of the zig-zag path up the Orme. Here I found 10+ Silver-studded Blues in the grass & bushes (as l did last year too).

Hope you find them,

Russ

Hi Stu / Russ ... did you see any Grayling while you were there?

Hi Pete,

No, I only saw S/S Blues and I was only on the Orme for 20 mins at the West Bay cliff entrance within 20 metres of the road, so not a proper search.

As stated the weather was cloudy and windy, the S/S Blues were hiding in the grass.

Regards Russ

Ps. Off to Morecambe Bay tomorrow, may see Grayling at Gait Barrows or on Whitbarrow Scar.
