Patrick Barkham's Guide to British Butterflies DVD

I've just finished reading 'The Butterfly Isles' by Patrick Barkham. This is a superb book and certainly one of the best I've ever read. Amazingly, I've just discovered that there is a DVD guide to British Butterflies by Patrick that is soon to be released. At the moment, there are only two links to information about this DVD from Google. Both state that the DVD is due for release in March 2013, and there are a few clips from the DVD that have been posted on YouTube recently. Does anyone have any information as to the actual release date? I can hardly wait to get my hands on it!

Hi cambsaurelian,

Firstly, welcome to UKB; I see you've just joined.

I can't give you a precise date for its release, but I can tell you that it's ready to go! Bill Smith (the producer) rang me last week to let me know that a copy is in the post. This is because I made a very small contribution to the DVD, which of course means that any comments I make on its quality and content may be biased. It's fantastic - BUY IT ASAP!

Best Wishes, Neil

Hi Sussex Kipper,

Thanks for your warm welcome, and thanks for the quick response to my question regarding Patrick's DVD. It looks like I won't have to wait very long to buy it, hopefully within a couple of weeks. I've only allowed myself to watch one clip from YouTube as I don't want to spoil the enjoyment I'll certainly get when watching the DVD! If the rest of the DVD is anything like the clip of the Mountain Ringlet I've watched, then it will be fantastic!

Any idea yet of when this DVD is going to be released? I've been looking forward to getting it ever since I found out about it, because I know just how enjoyable watching it will be. Usually there is some indication of when an important product will be released, but so far nothing new since November 2012! Please put me out of my misery!

If this DVD is anywhere as near enjoyable as the Butterfly Isles, then we're in for a treat...and the review indicates just that!!!

I have purchased the DVD, as Patrick's book is so well written and the comments on the DVD here make it sound well worth the cost. What I have watched so far does not disappoint. Beautifully filmed and great commentary from Patrick. With appearances from various luminaries of the butterfly world - some of whom are regular contributors to UK butterflies. Lovely to watch when the weather is drizzly like today and there is nothing on the wing - well not where I am.
