I visited Crook Peak today, a big limestone hill on the edge of the Mendip hills. It's popular with walkers and model glider enthusiasts. I didn't see anyone else looking for butterflies though.
I saw:
a single grayling
a single clouded yellow
a single small copper
a couple of meadow brown
several gatekeeper
half a dozen common blue
about a dozen brown argus
four or five speckled wood
about half a dozen small heath

Who said the season has ended? :)

Edit: Forgot to mention I also saw a nightingale, a male southern hawker, female and male migrant hawker and numerous common darter dragonflies.
