Took this picture on Zakynthos, Greece on 25 August. My initial thought was Eastern Wood White although all my books (as well as the excellent Padfield, Eeles et all App) say their flight season is April to July? This individual was one of two we saw at different places on the island.

Glad you're using the app! :D

Eastern wood white is a species I've never seen and I tend to keep out of ID discussions on it for this reason. I'd be interested to hear what Misha and Roger (and others) have to say on that. I will say I agree that this ticks most of the boxes for second brood Eastern wood white - though the critical antennal underside is not really visible here.

Flight times can be very useful indicators but those given in the books can also be way out, particularly at the end of the season, when partial third broods or delayed emergences can greatly prolong things. I've seen butterflies long after the books say they should be over. This is particularly true for polyvoltine species.

Thanks Guy,

I found the App very useful. It certainly saved carrying a book (with a 15 kg weight limit on the flight!)

Not sure if this close up helps with identification?
