Re: Emperor!
Lovely! We were in Norfolk last weekend and saw quite a few Emperor dragonflies - Their bodies truly were sky blue and what with their green heads, they really are spectacular creatures.
I also came across a nymph hatching out at the edge of a small pond (not an Emperor, but a Darter of some kind I presume?):

judging by the size ( width ) of the body I`d say either 4-spotted or Broad bodied Chaser. (Libellula quadrimaculata or Libellula depressa ).

Re: Emperor!
Thanks Jenks,
I went back a couple of hours later and this is what it had transformed into:
It was very pale straw yellow but that may have changed later (?) I'm not very good with dragonflies (I know they change even as adults). Does that help?

Re: Emperor!
It looks completely different now ! Body much slimmer and longer ( wish I could do that ! ). I`ll now say a newly emerged Common Darter female (Sympetrum striolatum ) but I`m happy to be corrected by those more knowledgeable.Trev Sawyer wrote:Thanks Jenks,

Re: Emperor!
Thanks again Jenks,
Like you, I was expecting something with a thick body (secretly hoping for a broad-bodied chaser ), but the wings are obviously not the only things which get elongated once it has hatched out.
