Hi, is this a type of Hawk moth larva

this was found on the 20 aug on a fleece in my garden, I think it is some kind of hawk moth. Does anyone know what it is?

Yes - Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila elpenor)
Take nothing but photographs. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time.

Thanks for the id - I have just realised I should have looked at recent posts :oops: as there is a good picture already
Do they over winter at this stage or should I be looking out for him to pupate

He'll pupate in the earth and overwinter as a pupa. He was probably feeding on your fuschias :)
