On the 15th April, I went on a field trip to see if I could find any Orange-Tip butterflies, and decided to record the whole thing and make a video of it. Here it is:

I think the only problem I had when searching for butterflies that day was I arrived at the location after 1pm and might have saw more earlier in the morning. I would like to record more of my field trips in future.

Excellent stuff as usual. Particularly liked the Speckled Wood stingy nettle knees bit...hilarious It would be great to see more members presenting a typical days butterflying in there neck of the woods. Informative and fun Dave...I have pretty much watched all your vids...and I can see the potential of what you are trying to do. Good luck with it all....and get a rucksack Dave...carrying all your gear in your coat pockets is a good laugh for us but not so good for you.

Great. I'm glad you filmed the 'failures', its comforting to know even the experts can draw a blank - at least on the target species. Also very entertaining and I look forward to the next episode.

Thanks both, excuse not replying sooner Iain,

The next one I'll be doing better, had a lot of time working with voice narration and recording and video editing and watched a lot of nature documentaries and saw how other professionals edited videos, so can make the next one better. I am doing the Bioblitz this year, so I'll be recording my moth trapping and what butterflies/wild plants I find, so that will be part of another episode in the future.

Also decided it would be best to stay non technical (I mentioned different lenses in that video) as not everyone would know what they are, or need to know (Unless its a behind the scenes video on how the episode was made). I'll be changing the walking around parts since I got my new GoPro camera and have been testing it, so instead of being long, I'll shorten them to minute or so each area and just show clips of each area I am in and what butterflies/moths I see there. Noticed I was repeating myself too much also which I'll also not do. All a learning curve.

Next trip I am going on is to an ancient flooded woodland (Alder/Willow carr and Oak Woodland), one of the oldest in Northern Ireland with some of the oldest alder trees in NI, near a population of Marsh Fritillay, hopefully next saturday, so will be on the lookout for those and try and get photos/videos of those and anything else, hopefully Orange-Tips too which are there in the flooded areas, just have to ask permission to visit the site.
