Does anyone know how to go about finding out who owns a piece of land?

Maps can go so far, highlighting NT, FC etc but if you find a fantastic habitat in the wild and want to speak to whoever owns it, how would you know?

I presume the Land Registry would be in receipt of such records, though whether they are available to the public is doubtful.

Ask a local dog-walker, they usually know ........seriously !

Yes, the Land Registry isn't cheap. I find the best way to find out about land ownership is to ask a local person. Once you find out who one landowner is they can tell you who their neighbours are! The local Community Council can be helpful, too.
